The internet is an integral part of our lives today, there is no denying this. Apart from the fun stuff (social networking, gaming, movies etc), there is another, serious side to the internet that includes businesses, blogs, shopping and much more. Websites are what the internet is all about.
However, telling someone about the importance of websites and their role in the internet would only be a drag, since even a little kid today knows what a website is, and what it does.
So without further ado, let’s take a look at the services that make accessing web sites possible – web hosts.
Web hosts are just what their name suggests – hosting services for websites. So for example, if you want to set up a website, the first thing you need to do is select a web host, who will host your website so that it can be accessed by people through the internet.
Depending on how big your website will be, and how much traffic you are expecting, web hosts have different plans, charging you accordingly. Most small businesses do not need extensive hosting services, which include a large amount of data storage and the ability to withstand massive amounts of traffic.
In fact, the hosting plan holds the key to success for an online businessman like a blogger and other online business types. A good hosting plan may not guarantee a successful blog, however, without a good hosting plan, success is almost impossible.
There are a number of web hosts available for people to choose from, and with the competition so fierce, it can be a tough job indeed to select the best web host for your needs.
Two of the most popular web hosts, Bluehost and HostGator are both renowned for providing reliable hosting services and great up-time. We have compared both these hosts extensively and the results are here for you to see.
Bluehost vs Hostgator
The first thing that would attract anyone towards a web host are the choices. The greater the services offered, the more likely businesses are to use it. HostGator has three different plans to choose from, which they call Hatchling, Baby and Business. As the names suggest, they are for new, medium and large sized businesses respectively. Features provided are proportioned accordingly and this is a very convenient feature.
On the other hand, Bluehost has only one plan to offer, which might not be the most convenient choice, since if you are just starting out, you may not need all the advanced features the single plan provides, so opting for HostGator might be a sensible choice here.
The most important thing about any web host is its uptime. There is no point in opting for a host which has regular down-times, as it will only keep your website offline and do you no good. Bluehost and HostGator have recognized this and this is the reason both these web hosts have excellent up-times, reported at 99% plus. That means your website will be always online, with very rare occurrences of going offline. Either of the two would make a great choice in this regard.
Once again, both HostGator and Bluehost have acknowledged each other, and perhaps this is why that the basic monthly prices charged by both these hosts are almost the same. HostGator charges $3.96 per month and Bluehost charges $3.95 per month. While there is no difference, you might just be tempted to go for Bluehost, as it only has one plan, but more features than the basic plan offered by HostGator, essentially meaning you get more for less.
Another reason that might pull you towards Bluehost is the ability to register multiple domains, which is not available with HostGator’s basic plan. So if you are just starting out, and have plans for expansion in the near future, Bluehost might be a good option. Otherwise, it’s HostGator all the way, as you do not want all the extra features if you do not plan to expand anytime soon.
You’ll notice both Bluehost and HostGator hosting plans are very similar. I have used both hosts for many different sites and have been happy with both. The most important aspect of a successful website is taking action! So, choose which host most closely fits your needs and get started today!
